The suspense is over in Mexia as the
MISD school board has made a big
decision regarding the future of
Blackcat Athletics by approving new
AD/HC Paul Weaver.
Paul Weaver comes to Mexia with no
head coaching experience but has
served as an assistant at several
programs, the latest being Keller
Fossil Ridge where he coached for 6
years. Weaver was the OC/QB coach
as well as the head track coach for
Fossil Ridge the last 3 years.
Before KFR, he also served as an
assistant at Princeton, Longview and
was the coordinator of Southlake
Carroll Junior High. Coach Weaver
comes from a long line of larger
schools and feels confident about
taking the reins of 3A Mexia.
He takes over a program that has
been open since former Coach Lee
Wiginton took over for 4A Midlothian
a few months ago. Coach Weaver, a
1991 graduate of White Oak High
school, also attended and played
football for Austin College, where
he earned his Master’s degree. He
brings with him a wealth of
knowledge of football and from all
accounts made a huge impression on
the Mexia faithful.
The Mexia program is not one that
has lacked talent or success. For
the last several years the Blackcats
boasted one of the best athletic
programs in the state. Mexia
football was 9-3 last year and lost
to eventual state champion Carthage
in the 2009 playoffs. Recently,
Mexia lost to Fairfield deep in the
basketball playoffs and are expected
to make a run at the playoffs in
baseball as well.
Supercentex.com would like to extend its
congratulations to Coach Paul Weaver and welcome you
to the Super Centex region. We wish the Mexia
Blackcat program and their fans continued success.
