According to sources, SuperCentex.com has confirmed
that Valley Mills ISD hired now former Brady
Offensive Coordinator David Wells as Athletic
Director and head football coach of the Eagles in a
school board meeting tonight.
This thwarts rumors
that Valley Mills would hire Robert Murphy, former
coach of the 2004 2A state champion Crawford
Pirates. However, several sources close to both the
Valley Mills program and Murphy have confirmed he
was the leading candidate for the job on Monday, but
talks between Valley Mills and Murphy quickly broke
down on Tuesday. Even though Murphy attended Valley
Mills basketball games last week, he did not meet
with the students contrary to rumors, our sources
said.
Averaging 39 points per game in 2009, the district
8-2A champion Brady
Bulldogs were also 2A State Semi-Finalists and went 13-1
on the season. They were eliminated from the 2009
playoffs by Pilot Point. In 2008 Brady was 11-2 and
lost in the regional round. Wells who ran a wing-T
offense under Glen Jones at Brady is a graduate of
Angelo State University.
Wells will attempt to breathe life into the Valley
Mills football program has struggled as of late.
Over the past two years, the Eagles have posted a
1-18 record under former head coach Mike Finnell.
