Midway
ISD is expected to announce the hiring of their new
head football coach today in a special school board
meeting. Terry Gambill is expected to take the
reigns of the highly desirable Midway program from
long term legendary Coach Kent Bachtel. Bachtel
served as the Panthers head coach for 23 years
(170-31-1) announced his retirement before the 2009
season.
Gambill comes from Allen High School where he served
as the defensive coordinator/assistant head
coach since 2001. The Allen Eagles are one year
removed from a 5A Division state championship, a
game in which the Eagle defensive unit was described
as "a stellar persuing pack" when they defeated Fort
Bend Hightower 21-14 to take home their first ever
State Championship.
Coach Gambill was chosen over many qualified
applicants from all around the state including
Midway's own 5 year assistant/co-defensive
coordinator David Petroff. However, trusted
SuperCentex.com sources have learned that Petroff is
currently the leading candidate for the Waco
Connally Athletic Director job.
Allen takes over a Panther program that continues to
rise. MISD continues to grow in athletics as well
as academics attracting a number of Waco ISD and
small school moveouts to their program. Midway is
currently building a new football stadium where the
old one stood for Coach Gambill and his program to
break in new traditions. |
